INTRODUCING BADIAN



The Municipality of Badian is a third class municipality located 97.6 km. southwest of Cebu City. It is bounded by the Municipality of Moalboal on the north; Municipality of Alegria on the south; Dalaguete and Argao on the east; and on the west by TaƱon Strait.  Badian has a total population of 37,699 according to the 2010 census. It comprised of 29 barangays with 1 island barangay, 11 coastal barangays, 17 inland barangays. The topography of the area is mountainous and hilly. The climate belongs to the third type in the Philippines where dry seasons comes in the months of February to September and the heaviest rains come on the month of October. Badian has a total of 18 elementary schools and 3 high schools namely; Saint James Academy (a Catholic school run by the Daughters of Saint Theresa), Badian National High School located at the center of the town and the extension located in Barangay Basak.


Cebu Electric Cooperative Inc. is the provider of electricity in the town and the source of water is the Municipal Water System. Badian has one post office located in the Municipal Building. A broadband connection is also available. The transportation modes in the town are jeepneys, buses, tricycles,multicabs, bicycle, and trisicads. Financial and lending institution, cooperatives are the towns financial intermediaries and the commercial establishment includes a restaurant, bakeshops, meat and fish retailer, sari-sari stores, general merchandise, service and repair shops, tailoring and dress shops, pawnshops and lending investment, lumber and hardware, drugstores, gasoline station, photoshops and parlors. Money remittances are also available in the town like Kwarta Padala.

Badian is connected with a network of roads with one main road traversing centrally. The minor roads that intersect will lead you to the 29 barangays or to any of the resorts, beaches in the town and to another point of interest. The peso (code: PHP) is the currency of the Philippines and is the currency used in the town like the rest of the country. Badian has one district hospital and a number of health centers that can provide basic medical care and some privately own medical clinic to serve you. The easiest way to reach the town is by Bus from Cebu South Bus Terminal which takes you 2 to 3 or more hours of travel depending on the situation (delayed bus schedule, stops and acceleration etc.). Aircon, Non-Aircon, and Economy buses are available right at Cebu South Bus Terminal and Librando Trans Inc. Terminal.

Badian is the home of the famous majestic Kawasan Falls ( a major tourist destination of Cebu) and the Matutinao River (the National Hall of Fame Awardee as the Cleanest Inland Bodies of Water - River Category in the Philippines under the Gawad Pangulo sa KAPALIGIRAN in 2000-2002. It is also the home of the world class and one of Cebu's unique hotel, the Badian Island Beach Resort and SPA. Another tourist destination of Badian is the Cebu International Golf and Resort located in Barangay Lambug. it's the only 18 holes par 72-course golf course located in the town.

The town's patron saint is Saint James the Apostle. The town's annual fiesta is every 24th and 25th of July every year. The colorful Banig Festival is held during the town fiesta. Banig Festival showcases the talent and creativity of the towners in waiving mat using Pandan (Pandanus tectorius or Fragrant Screw Fine). The craftswomen collect Pandan leaves and used it to create "Banig", mat.
